The former Costa Magica, now sailing under the name Vision, has embarked on a journey across the Suez Canal and Red Sea, bound for China. This voyage marks a significant chapter in the ship's history, as it transitions from its previous life as a Costa Cruises vessel to a new chapter with Tianjin Orient International Cruise Line. The ship, built in 2004, is set to undergo a comprehensive upgrade before it welcomes its first guests in Asia, where it will operate under the name Ideal. This transformation comes as part of a strategic move by Tianjin Orient to cater to the Chinese national market, alongside the Dream. The ship's journey began on November 19th from Greece, and it crossed the Suez Canal on November 25th, 2025. The acquisition of the former Costa Magica by Tianjin Orient in mid-November signifies a new era for the cruise line, as it seeks to expand its presence in the Asian market. The ship's previous iterations, including its time as the Mykonos Magic and Goddess of the Night, highlight the dynamic nature of the cruise industry, where vessels can undergo multiple name and operational changes. With the sale of the former Costa Magica, Seajets now owns three cruise ships, including the former Veendam, Majesty of the Seas, and Oceana, which were previously in service for Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and P&O. These vessels are currently laid up in Greek ports, awaiting new operators, as Seajets continues to navigate the post-pandemic cruise market.
