Katy Perry stole the show at her latest red carpet event with a bold and futuristic look.. The 40-year-old Last Friday Night hitmaker wowed attendees at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony at Barker Hangar in California, where she sported a daring ensemble.

The BRIT Award-winning singer flaunted her flawless curves in a flowing, shimmery silver dress paired with a matching hat, and kept her makeup natural. The awards, held on Sunday, April 5, celebrate scientists who have made groundbreaking discoveries in fields like gene editing, human diseases, and the fundamental particles of the Universe. Winners were revealed at the event.

A number of famous faces were in attendance, including Kate Hudson, who dazzled in an off-the-shoulder shimmering gown. Other glamourous stars spotted at the ceremony included Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Christina Aguilera, and will.i.am.

The Breakthrough Prize ceremony is an annual event and is broadcast globally. Past events have featured appearances by tech leaders such as Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan.

It comes just days after Katy's ex Russell Brand spoke about the real reason behind his and the singer's painful breakup. They were married from 2010 to 2012, and Perry has since moved on with movie star Orlando Bloom, whom she shares her daughter with Daisy Dove Bloom.

Seapking on the Talking on his Stay Free with Russell Brand podcast episode, which aired yesterday (April 3), he said: “What can I tell you is, when I was married to Katy Perry, she's like a­... not entirely normal, because she's an extraordinary, massive star­ but she's not weird or off key.

"And wasn't involved in anything nefarious, as far as I could tell." He added, “The reasons that a marriage didn't work are the normal human reasons marriages don't work, and I have nothing but respect for her.”

Katy has previously spoken out about their relationship. Reflecting on her experience, she shared that while the idea of love may seem like a fairy tale, the reality can be far more complicated. She said: "Being in love is a dream, but the reality is not like the movies. There’s a lot more compromise and sacrifice," she confessed during her documentary, Katy Perry: Part of Me, back in 2012.

"The truth is I’m a romantic and I believed in the fairy tale. . .I did everything I could but it still failed,” she said. “The dream of being in love is a lot different than the reality of making it work.”

She was one of the judges on American Idol since 2018, but Perry announced in November 2023 that she would be leaving the show to focus on music. She has since released her seventh studio album, 143, in September 2024.

Katy's appearance at the event comes a week before she is set to travel to space on a history-making flight with Blue Origin. Katy will be a part of the first all-female trip to travel to space since 1963.

Katy said it was a lifelong dream, telling ELLE: 'I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, "Sign me up! I’m first in line."

"And then they called me, and I was like, 'Really? I get an invite?’ And then they told me about it being the first all-female crew. I take pause in those moments and ask the universe to give me confirmations. And I really felt very sure when they sent me the picture of the space pod, because on the front of the pod is a feather, and that’s my mom’s nickname for me."
