Paresh Rawal's 'The Taj Story' Surpasses Expectations with a 165% Jump in Collections
Paresh Rawal's controversial film, 'The Taj Story,' defied predictions with a remarkable 165% surge in box office collections on Wednesday, amassing a total of Rs 45 lakh. This impressive performance brings the film's cumulative earnings to a substantial Rs 16.82 crore. The film's success is set to continue as it faces minimal competition from other releases, with 'De De Pyaar De 2' being the only notable contender starting Friday.
The film's journey at the box office has been a rollercoaster. While it initially faced competition from films like Ayushmann Khurrana's 'Thamma,' Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa's 'Ek Deewane ke Deewaniyat,' and Prabhas' 'Baahubali- The Epic,' it maintained a steady performance in its first week, collecting Rs 11 crore. Even during its second weekend, the film continued to perform well, adding Rs 4.8 crore to its total despite the competition. However, on Monday and Tuesday, collections dropped significantly, with Sacnilk reporting Rs 40 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, respectively, marking the film's lowest-ever collection on these days.
The turning point came on Wednesday, when the film's collections soared to Rs 45 lakh, stunning the industry. If this trend persists, 'The Taj Story' is projected to surpass the Rs 20 crore mark in its theatrical run. This success is particularly notable given the film's modest budget of Rs 7-8 crore, as revealed by Paresh Rawal. The film's narrative revolves around a court case filed by Rawal's character, questioning the authenticity and purpose of the Taj Mahal, adding a layer of intrigue to its commercial success.
Paresh Rawal's 'The Taj Story' joins his other release, 'Thamma,' in achieving strong box office performance. However, both films will face stiff competition from 'De De Pyaar De 2,' starring Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, R Madhavan, and Meezaan Jaafri, as well as 'Kaantha,' featuring Dulquer Salmaan, Rana Daggubati, and Bhagyashri Borse, starting Friday.
